Gumby Support
This page is dedicated to the people who have been out riding with the Gumbies for a day of fun. Most of the riders here have been out once or twice with us over the years and deserve a mention. As this is what riding is about; no need for the latest equipment, just get out and have some fun with your old bike (though Ol' Guy Garry is an exception).
The Mighty Trev on his no-suspension fronted Kawasaki KLR250R had a blast at Pratten and is the only fellow to ever have the funniest stack in the history of Gumby riding. He just laughs at everything, that guy!

Ant, a past work colleague, came out as well with Trev for an introductory offer of riding with the Gumbies. His ever reliable Suzuki TS185 never missed a beat all day. Hopefully he'll come back in the future for a squirt in the dirt, especially if drinks too much on the day!

One thing that gives us all hope is when Ol' Guys like Garry & Colin come out with us for a ride; these guys are in their 50's & 60's and matched it with us for the whole day. This proves you are never too old - also they had the latest bikes. Retirement money, we thought?
But 2 timer Bobski did the opposite, deciding to retire from trail riding and sold his Honda XL250R as he was getting too old. But Chookchasers would love to see him return one day? Thanks for your support fella, in the early days.
Little guy Tye had a couple rides as well, once on his Who-Flung-Dung Jianshe 90 then with a return aboard a Yamaha YZ80K which turned out to be little too quick when hitting the 'rubberband' for the fellow at the time. He thinks cars are 'Cooler' and settles to drive something like a Nissan Pintara... we think - it is of no concern to us at Chooks as it has four wheels.
Konny is a seasoned motorcycle lover but never has the time. When we did see him, it was short lived as he was busy that day as well. He had a great Yamaha TT250R that he got off a numb-skull who dropped the tip of a file into the cylinder (as you do!) and thought he had seized up a very low kilometer bike. His loss, Konny's gain. Ol mate who used a file to clean his spark plug orifice out may be on to something...
...we think the next time we plan a mechanical intervention on our machines we will use spoons.
That aside, we think getting out on the old machines every now & again is good for one's own system to vent frustration of the daily grind that can get people down. Society is busy and interaction through connectivity makes us become more involved in things which sometimes aren't as important as we think they are. Each involvement takes a little of our time, and although technology is easier to access these days, it does create more complexity for yourself and your life. Bike riding in the outside world amongst fresh air and nature tends to make things simple again.
As mentioned, most of our bikes are from the 70's & 80's. Sometimes we all must venture back to an earlier time to stop burning out. ![]()
